It's funny how the Green Mountain and White Mountain states are so close to each other geographically but so far apart culturally. Vermont has socialist tendencies; New Hampshire'd ethos is "live free or die." Vermont gets its name from the French language; New Hampshire's name pays homage to a British county. Vermont has Bernie Sanders; New Hampshire has Judd Gregg.

I give Vermonters credit for being solid outdoorsmen and toughing the elements, but I don't think you can knock a state where residents brave Mt. Washington's hurricane-force winds in January. New Hampshire real problem lies on its southern border -- the soft Bay Staters packing up an leaving faster than Tom Brady on a stretcher after a season-ending knee injury.
