The New York Times reports on the Patrick administration's tentative steps toward ending the "Massachusetts anachronism" of having police officers stand guard whenever a road crew is "fixing potholes or laying pavement."
MassINC president Gregory Torres is quoted on the political implications:
“The details erode public confidence that taxpayer money is being spent wisely,” Mr. Torres said. “I think the symbolism is very important when it comes to issues like this.”
